The measures to contain the corona virus outbreak hit hard, especially small, owner-managed businesses. There are always new regulations to be observed, restaurants and pubs had to close or switch to take-away, sales figures are falling due to “social distancing” and people no longer spend as much due to loss of income on the customer side as a result of job loss.

Using the example of an otherwise lively and popular shopping street in Brisbane, SBS correspondent Katharina Loesche shows us what the virus outbreak means for the small shops personally and economically. Listen to the interview with Gayatri Aegeter, who is running a popular gelato-shop on this street and is the President of the "Oxford Street Business Association”, which represents the interests of shop-owners.
