Former Fire and Rescue New South Wales commissioner Greg Mullins has called Australia’s policy on climate change “an international embarrassment for this country when we’re burning”. The stark condemnation comes as he and 28 other former fire chiefs say that in the absence of political leadership on climate change, they are moving to hold their own summit on the bushfire crisis.

“Look unfortunately on the climate change front Australia is not pulling its weight. Every year for the past five years under this government, our emissions have gone up. We (Australia) opposed more measures to reduce emissions internationally in Madrid, which is an international embarrassment for this country when we're burning.”
