In a coordinated declaration, Canada, Australia and the United Kingdom have officially recognized the State of Palestine — a historic step as two G7 members are taking this path for the first time. While the three countries refer to reform promises from the Palestinian Authority, Israel's government reacts with sharp opposition and speaks of a “reward for terror.” Resistance is also forming in the USA. Observers see this recognition primarily as a symbolic signal — with unclear consequences for the reality of the Middle East conflict.
