On 20, 22 and 24 February, Richard Wagner's romantic opera Parsifal will be staged three times in Melbourne. Wagnerian singers from around the world will transform the Palais Theatre in St Kilda into a world of heroic fantasy filled with magical characters including noble knights, evil sorcerers and amorous flower maidens.
Wagner's Gesamtkunstwerk is staged by Victorian Opera. The four-hour production will have two breaks and will see Richard Mills direct the Australian Youth Orchestra.
To prepare our listeners for Wagner's arguably most transcending opera, Christian Froelicher invited German tenor and lead actor Burkhard Fritz to the SBS studio.
