Absinthe, favoured by the well-heeled and artistic set in Europe's Golden Age prior to WW1, is a mystic drink with a mysterious, decadent flavour. But why was it forbidden in Germany and elsewhere from 1923 onwards? And what do we make of its revival in more recent times? We asked German travel medicine specialist Dr Irmgard Bauer in Queensland to tell us more.
