Do you have a smartphone with a smashed front? A kitchen radio in need of some tender love and care? Well, look no further than one of the many Repair Cafés dotted around the world, including nine in Australia and numerous in Germany. But how do they work, and who are the volunteers staffing them?
In a bid to find out, SBS reporter Daniel Salg visited one of the coffee workshops, in Nuremberg, Franconia. He spoke to Heinz Blättner (the repair guy seen sitting on these photos), Felix Schreiner (a board member of "FabLab") and Oliver Lopez-Forster (a visitor keen to point out the many advantages of the innovative concept).
