Associate Professor Tom van Laer from the Business School of Sydney University has studied a little-known side effect of pilgrimages. Namely why pilgrims who travel to the holy sites tend to post reviews on websites such as TripAdvisor which are grossly exaggerated compared to reviews by non-pilgrims. Why is this a problem?
