Iris Brandewiede tells us a story about an exemplary family celebration in the 1960s in the Ruhr area. Dozens of relatives are invited to their great-grandmother's birthday party. Most of them come from far away - after all, after the two world wars, 50% of the Germans no longer live where their roots actually are.
