When Greatgrandma turned 85

Iris Brandewiede tells us a story about an exemplary family celebration in the 1960s in the Ruhr area. Dozens of relatives are invited to their great-grandmother's birthday party. Most of them come from far away - after all, after the two world wars, 50% of the Germans no longer live where their roots actually are. From the perspective of an 8-year-old, we hear about losses, fallen brothers and lost children, traumas that these generations probably carried with them all their lives, but often did not talk about.
