Coles backflip on plastic bags

Coles says it will stop giving customers free thick plastic bags from August 30.

The supermarket chain drew criticism from environmental groups when it announced yesterday it would continue to give out complimentary reusable plastic bags indefinitely to allow its customers to adjust to the withdrawal of single use plastic bags.

From the end of the month customers will be charged 15 cents for the bags.
