The army is under the command of General Khalifa Haftar and has been trying to take Tripoli for 3 months.
The detention centre itself had been under scrutiny , with reports listing food and water scarcity for tyhe people living inside.
With the centre gone, it is unclear what will become of the survivors.
UNHCR chief of mission for Libya, Jean Paul Cavalieri said the world must act.
«UNHCR given the circumstances, is once again calling for humanitarian corridors to the international community to make sure that all refugees who are in danger can be put to safety abroad and taken out of Libya,» he said.
The spokesman of UN's Governor General, Stephane Dujarric said António Guterres is calling once more for an immediate cease of hostilities in Libya.
«This incident underscores the urgency to provide all refugees and migrants with safe shelter until their asylum claims can be processed or they can be safely repatriated. The Secretary-General reiterates his call for an immediate ceasefire in Libya and a return to political dialogue,» said Mr. Dujaric.
