Labor continues to hold a big lead in the opinion polls despite Opposition Leader Bill Shorten's standing with voters taking a dive. The Fairfax-Ipsos survey shows the opposition with a 53 to 47 per cent two-party preferred lead over the government. But the poll also reveals since May, Mr Shorten's approval rating has fallen from 42 to 36 per cent, while his disapproval rating rose from 47 to 52 per cent. He has also slipped in the preferred prime minister stakes with Malcolm Turnbull at 48 per cent compared to Mr Shorten's 31 per cent. More from Themis Kallos and Sotiris Hatzimanolis
