One of the burdens assumed by adult children is caring for their aging parents while dealing with their own careers and children at the same time.

More than 1.5 million middle-aged Australians are "sandwiched" between caring for both their parents and their children and the number of children caught in this double-bind is expected to grow as more and more members of the baby boom generation become senior citizens themselves. This is what it means to be part of the sandwich generation.

What are the challenges and how can communities help?

Food For Thought Network, is organizing an event on August 28, 6pm at the Greek Centre in Melbourne, aiming to help those caring for both their kids and aging parents.

"Most women are affected but there is help," said Varvara Ioannou, President and Founder of the Network.
