Fos Candle Co is a small business operating in Melbourne, crafting candles made out of beeswax and selling them to stores in the city. The brains behind this business is 18 year old Aristidis Tsoulakos.
''I started this business because I wanted to offer a product that is friendlier to the environment and better for our health'' said the young entrepreneur to SBS Greek.
He explains that most candles contain paraffin, a substance that when burned produces black smoke that can dirty furniture and walls, and more importantly, threaten the health of people with breathing problems or allergies.
''My candles are different, because beeswax does not produce that smoke'' said Mr Tsoulakos.
The student get his raw materials from a local producer in Melbourne. He makes the candles by himself, placing the candlewick in the middle of the wax sheets, before rolling the sheets up.

His business is small, but it impressed the judges at the Bayside Business Excellence Awards 2019. Fos Candle Co was one of the three finalists at the Trades section, alongside a hairdresser and a locksmith.
''When the judges came to see me, and we discussed about my business and how I make the candles they told me that my candles were unique, and that they have never seen anything like it before.''
The 18 year old is currently in Year 12. Although he found it challenging, balancing school with running a business but he noted that the experience has been a positive one.

''I have learned to manage my time better and to communicate better. I also think more creatively''. He also stresses that entrepreneurship can be valuable for young people, as it helps them grow up, learn the world and gives them more confidence.
