Wikileaks founder Julian Assange was arrested and subsequently found guilty of breaching his bail yesterday, after Ecuador cancelled the political asylum it had been providing him since 2012.

Mr. Assange, who is an Australian citizen, now faces the possibility of being extradited to United States (USA) as he allegedly worked with former military Chelsea Manning to gain access to thousands of classified documents from the Ministry of Defense.

The news of his arrest have triggered the resurface of Sweden’s investigation on Mr. Assange, who was accused of rape in 2012. The investigation had halted due to Mr. Assange’s stay on Ecuador’s Embassy, but Sweden’s prosecutor has received an official request to reopen the case.

Ecuador’s President Lenín Moreno stated that Assange’s poor behaviour at the Embassy was the reason that the country refused to provide him with Asylum.

Australian Prime Minister, Scott Morrison, said that Assange is subject to the laws of the country he is in and that he will receive consular support.
