Lemnos island Sub-Prefect Evagelos Giarmadouros spoke to SBS Greek about the events on the Greek island of Lemnos to commemorate the 100th Anniversary of the end of the First World War.
The 30 Army Cadet Unit has travelled to Lemnos to participate in the 100th Anniversary of the Armistice of Moudros. The Unit was established in 1985 and comprises 65 cadets whose ages range from 13 to 19. This is the second time members of the Unit have travelled to Lemnos. The first time was in 2015 during the Anzac Centenary. The Unit is currently led by Captain John Luca.
Also, Leslie Williams MP (NSW Govt) and Anthony Ball CEO Clubs NSW and six students were part of the Australian delegation who visited Lemnos for the Armistice of Moudros events.
Vice President of the Lemnos Gallipoli Commemorative Committee, Christina Despoteris addressed many events on Lemnos to commemorate the Armistice of Moudros. All of the events were a combination of cultural and historical presentations, as well as the official launch of a sister-school relationship.
Ms Despoteris also presented a framed photo of the Australian Pier to the Sub-Prefect of Lemnos Evagelos Giarmadouros.
