Australia has climbed up the ranking of the world's richest countries contributing to global development. But it's a slight achievement: in jumping four spots to 14th it remains among the bottom half of the world's 27 richest countries.

The 2018 Commitment to Development Index has been released ((1400 Tue 18 Sept)) by the Center for Global Development.

Out of the world's 27 richest countries, Australia is now ranked at 14th regarding whether its domestic policies improve lives in the developing world.

Policy analysts the Center for Global Development examined the 27 countries' polices in aid, finance, technology, environment, trade, security and migration.

Australia's ranking jumped four spots compared to last year because of what the Center's senior policy fellow, Ian Mitchell, says is improvements in two areas.
