Breaking down the digital barriers for people settling in Australia

It's hoped a new federal government pilot program to help improve digital literacy for migrant refugees and women will break down barriers for those settling in Australia.


Research suggests almost one in four people in Australia are experiencing those barriers.


A 2020 report by the Good Things Foundation suggests about one in four people in Australia are digitally excluded.

It also found refugee and newly arrived migrant women are at a higher risk of being digitally excluded than the rest of the population. 

Social Services Minister Amanda Rishworth says migrant and refugee women in particular need to be supported to improve their digital skills.
