Australian researchers have shown that quick "spot welding" can save some men from two years of the challenging hormone therapy that is standard treatment for advanced prostate cancer.
They say each spot takes about an hour to treat and can be done during an outpatient visit.
They are the first to conduct a trial of this in Australia and second only in the world. Their results complement those achieved in Belgium this year.
Although it is early days and the results need to be confirmed by high-powered trials, the findings are promising.
