The General Secretary of the Central Committee of AKEL, Mr. Andros Kyprianou alleged that he is being targeted by Cyprus Intelligence Service (KYP) surveillance.
He made the claim during yesterdays (Tuesday) meeting of the National Council. His allegations were rejected by President Anastasiades, to whom the Cyprus Intelligence Service (KYP) is accountable to.
Mr Kyprianou speaking today to Themi Kallos confirmed the claim, however he did not want to elaborate. He did say though that he would never have made such a claim if he was not in a position to substantiate it. Furthermore, he criticised the leaking.
I am saddened by the fact that some people who were participants in the discussions thought fit to leak such information to the media. I believe that such action do great damage to Cyprus in general. UI will not be engaging into further discussion apart from to stress that when I say something I can prove it, Mr Kyprianou said.
In the interview Mr Kyprianou focuses on the reasons behind the failed UN-brokered Cyprus talks in Crans-Montana, Switzerland, and the subsequent developments.
Mr Kyprianou said that we are already feeling the very negative post Crans-Montana consequences the safest medicine is to find the way for the talks to resume.
