The Chief Scientist of the Republic of Cyprus for Research, Innovation and Technology and President of the National Committee for Artificial Intelligence, Dr. Dimitris Skouridis, visited Australia.

During his stay, he held a series of meetings with his counterparts, universities, and other institutions in Canberra and Melbourne.

The purpose of the trip was to strengthen scientific cooperation, exchange know-how, and explore prospects in the fields of research and innovation.

Speaking to the Greek Program of SBS Radio, Dr. Skouridis explained the role of the Chief Scientist in Cyprus, his responsibilities, and the importance the country places on the development and regulation of Artificial Intelligence.

He also referred to the sectors where Cyprus has a comparative advantage, the challenges faced by the research community, and the potential for substantial collaboration with Australia.

He emphasised, among other things, the role the Greek community abroad, can play in strengthening scientific links, while pointing out that issues such as climate change require joint action from the scientific community.
