Nikos Christodoulides met with his Israeli counterpart Gabi Ashkenazi to discuss a range of issues including security, political cooperation and the resumption of the tourist flow between the two countries.

Mr Christodoulides was accompanied by Israel’s ambassador in Cyprus, Sammy Revel, during his one-day visit in Tel Aviv.

Scenes of his reception at the airport, where he landed in a military aircraft did not go unnoticed.
Mr Christodoulides and Mr Ashkenazi were photographed practicing social distancing and bumping elbows, the gesture substituting handshakes amidst the coronavirus pandemic.

Following their one-on-one meeting, the discussion was also opened up to the delegates of the two Foreign Affairs Departments.

A joint announcement was issued later on, praising their strong bilateral ties.

Cyprus and Israel initiated diplomatic relations 60 years ago.
