The Hellenic Republic is actively supporting the initiatives of Australia’s Greek community to prevent an eventual discontinuation of the Greek Modern Studies program at Macquarie University, Sydney.

The Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr Giorgos Kotsiras, has sent a letter to the University authorities, strongly advocating the continuation of the program.

In his letter, Mr Kotsiras underlines “the importance of maintaining the Greek language and safeguarding cultural heritage of Hellenism in Australia”.

Furthermore, in addition “to the program's undeniable contribution to maintaining the links of the Greek diaspora with Greece”, he highlights “the contribution of Greek-language education to multicultural Australia”, and in particular, “the constructive role of the Macquarie University's Modern Greek Studies program in strengthening diplomatic and cultural ties between the two countries”.
