Paul Mavroudis, the president of the Thessaloniki Association “The White Tower” which is located in Melbourne, talks to SBS about this year's 'Dimitria'

'Homer's Odyssey' stage play

Thessaloniki Association “The White Tower” is supporting Zenon Education Centre’s Annual School Concert 2018 and this year’s theme is “Homer’s Odyssey”. Students of the Greek language school will be presenting a choreographed musical show depicting the story of Odysseus returning to his homeland Ithaca after the Trojan War.

The students have been working on this project right through 2018, taking part in understanding the story behind the concert and what it means in our lives as we all go through this journey. Parts of the concert will depict theatrical play dialogues, dancing, singing and background music, all by the students themselves.

Book Exhibition

A book exhibition will take place at the 'Thessaloniki Association' club offices in co-operation with Greek-Australian Cultural League and the Hellenic Writers’ Association of Australia.

Art Exhibition

An art exhibition with five Greek Australian local artists and members of 'Thessaloniki Association' will be taking place at the organisation's headquarter. These artists are John Papageorgiou, Paraskevas Mavrianos, Maria Kalaitzis, Anastasia Katsanis, and Aleka Mavroudis. The exhibition will be open to the public.

Glenti Festival

For one more year, the 'Thessaloniki Association' is organizing the 34th Annual Sister-Cities Glendi Festival at Federation Square with on-stage performers, musicians, dancers, schools, cultural food and beverages, public competitions and great fun.

The event, which this year is organized in co-operation with the Pan-Macedonian Association of Melbourne, as always the event will be open to the general public with free entry. It is a multicultural celebration to be enjoyed by the whole family.
