After a tense interview in Sky news Liberal MP Gladys Liu has released a statement to clear her position. During her statement she admitted of past links with China's Overseas Exchange Association. At the same time she stressed that she is a proud Australian and committed to her seat of Chisholm.
In her statement, Ms Liu said she held honorary positions with the United Chinese Commerce Association of Australia, Australian Jiangmen General Commercial Association Inc and Guangdong Overseas Exchange Association.
Mrs. Liu's statement is in contrast to her claims in her television interview where she claimed she did not recall being a part of two councils in the Guangdong and Shandong councils in China's Overseas Exchange Association .
The MP said she was no longer involved with these organisations and is in the process of checking if she had been listed as a member of any others.
"I do not wish my name to be used in any of these associations and I ask them to stop using my name," she said.
