The Australian Olympic Committee chief spoke of Gold Coast’s “key role” in the state’s bid to host the major event.
Gold Coast’s move to rejoin the local government advocacy group south-east Queensland Council of Mayors is said to boost the region’s bidding credentials.
"It's got so much to offer and I'm very pleased to see they've come on board," said the head of the Australian Olympic Committee, John Coates.
"It has existing venues and that's a massive priority for the IOC (International Olympic Committee) these days.”
