A Greek-Cypriot man, 39, was stabbed to death in his Sydney home in the early hours of Sunday morning (12.30 a.m.). Police have arrested two teenagers and charged them with murder. They also search for three others who are believed to have fled the scene.

The deceased is Kevin (Kyriakos or Koulis) Kourtis, who died of multiple stab wounds after an alleged invasion in his home at Riverstone, western Sydney. A 34 year-old woman, a housemate of the victim, was also allegedly assaulted and suffered minor injuries.

As reported in the local media, Mr Kourtis' girlfriend, 43, was also at home during the violent home invasion but was not injured.

A 16-year-old and a 17-year-old who allegedly fled the scene by jumping over the property's back fence were arrested a few streets away from the Langton Street home about 1.10am.  The pair were charged with murder on Sunday afternoon and refused bail.  They will face children's court today (Monday).

Police are still searching for three men who allegedly fled the scene in a car.

Media reports said that Mr Kourtis was known to police authorities. It is believed he had a  minor criminal record.

Detectives are meanwhile investigating whether the five men who allegedly stormed his home were known to him.

Police have established four separate crime scenes which were being examined by specialist forensic officers on Sunday.

Inquiries are continuing.

Anyone with information is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.

According to Community sources, who spoke to SBS Greek, Kyriakos Kourtis was born in Sydney and went to Cyprus with his family in the mid ‘90s. They settled in his mother’s village Lympia, near Nicosia. His father is from Agios Amvrosios, in the Keryneia region, which is occupied after the Turkish invasion of 1974.
