Controversial backbencher Craig Kelly has quit the Liberal Party to join the crossbench as an independent expressing relief that he will be able to express freely his opinions.
He recently came under fire for spreading misinformation about the coronavirus pandemic while he used his official pages in social media to promote unproven treatments for the virus, including the anti-malaria medication hydroxychloroquine.
He said that he does not intent to join another party and that he will vote with the government in matters of supply.
