The small port in the Chalcidice peninsula of Torone was one of the gateways of Macedonia in antiquity.
Ancient History Professor Thomas Hillard is giving a public lecture in English about the importance of Torone and why it was the epicentre to be administered by so many peoples. Macedonian wood and Macedonian wines would be exported from there to the rest of the ancient world whilst the actual port was in a very strategic position in Macedonia and the Greek world in general. Professor Hillard speaks to Dimitrios Kametopoulos about the context of his talk which will take place on Wednesday 11 October at the AHEPA Hall, 396 Princes Highway, Rockdale at 7.00pm in the framework of the Macedonian Celebrations “Dimitria 2017” Festival in conjunction with the Greek organisation of AHEPA. It is free entry and everyone is welcomed.
