Tehran says the new sanctions on Iran announced by the US «is the permanent closure of the path to diplomacy with Trump's desperate government». US president, Donald Trump announced that his government would prevent Iran's Supreme Leader and other high ranking Iranian officials from accessing the american financial system and their assets in the US.

The new sanctions against Iran's leadership were not met well by Tehran.

Iran's Foreign Ministry spokesman, Abbas Mousavi, said in a tweet that "Imposing fruitless sanctions against Iran's supreme leader and the commander of Iran's diplomacy is the permanent closure of the path to diplomacy with Trump's desperate government."

Mr. Mousavi added that "Trump's government is destroying all established international mechanisms for keeping global peace and security."

Donald Trump announced the sanctions yesterday, saying that his country will keep up the pressure on Iran until it abandons its ambitions for nuclear weapons and the support it provides to terrorism.
The sanctions are designed to prevent the Supreme Leader of Iran, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei  and his close partners access to the American financial system and to their assets in the US.

Mr. Trump said he is open to dialogue and that the sanctions could be lifted as early as tomorrow, or they can take years.
