Mr Biden said that as president he hopes to restore decency, defend democracy "and give everybody in this country a fair shot."
In his first appearance since winning the election, Joe Biden promised to work hard for all Americans - no matter how they voted.
"I sought this office to restore the soul of America. To rebuild the back room of this nation, the middle class, and to make America respected around the world again," Mr Biden said on Sunday.
