In October and November every year, the tastes, sights and sounds of Macedonia are put on display, in Thessaloniki as well as in the Greek Diaspora and here in Sydney too!
The Macedonian celebrations “Dimitria” take place in honour of the Patron Saint of the Macedonian capital, Thessaloniki, in northern Greece, Saint Dimitrios with events that include music, lectures on Macedonia’s history and its important role in the Hellenic world. Dimitrios Kametopoulos speaks to Mr Nikos Fassoulas, President of the Pan-Macedonian Association of Sydney and NSW about the events. In addition, Mr Fassoulas provides us with his evaluation of the World Congress of Macedonians abroad which took place in the Greek summer this year, the proposals put forward that concern the Macedonians as well as the decisions being made in regards to the FYROM (Former Yugoslavian Republic of Macedonia) and the naming issue of that Balkan country.
