A mother and her four children died Monday night, when the car they were in collided with a truck near the town of Kumbia.

According to the police, the 35 year old woman attempted to overtake another vehicle when she crashed against a truck coming from the other side of the road. Both vehicles caught fire.

The paramedics managed to remove a girl from the burning car but could not help the other three or the mother. The little girl, having suffered serious burns, was moved to Kingaroy hospital and then put on a helicopter to Brisbane, but she passed away during the flight.

The driver of the truck survived with no life-threatening injuries.

All four of the children were under 10 years old.

The police is investigating the incident.
