US House Speaker Nancy Pelosi has taken the first step towards an impeachment process of US president Donald Trump, alleging he attempted to pressure his Ukraine counterpart to investigate political opponent Joe Biden.
US House Speaker Nancy Pelosi has announced a formal impeachment inquiry of President Donald Trump, saying that the US president attempted to influence the US elcetions during a phone conversation with his Ukrainian counterpart.
"This week, the President admitted to asking the President of Ukraine to take actions which would benefit him politically," said Speaker Pelosi to the press before adding:
"The actions of the Trump presidency revealed the dishonourable fact of the President's betrayal of his oath of Office, betrayal of our national security and betrayal of the integrity of our elections."
Mr. Trump responded by saying the inquiry is part of a witch hunt and announced the transcript of the call between him and Mr. Zelensky will be made public.
