The Turnbull government has unveiled an ambitious plan to increase Australia's defence capabilities by equipping the defence force with new ships, aircraft and missiles. The Defence White Paper released today paves the way for the defence department to acquire armed drone aircraft, and ballistic missiles for the navy's new air warfare destroyers. The government has also committed to a permanent shipbuilding industry, that includes the construction of 12 new submarines, nine new frigates, and 12 new offshore patrol vessels from 2018.
