Scientists have developed a new device that monitors the number of conversations the elderly and deduce whether they are feeling socially isolated.
How many chats are you having per day?
A wearable device is able to answer that. A team of researchers from RMIT in Melbourne, in cooperation with Australia-based provider of independent living services Bolton Clarke, have developed the «Cat Pin», a device that can monitor the wearer’s conversations and message their family and carers if there are indications that the user is feeling socially isolated.
The device can also record conversations, count the number of words and encourages social interaction if the number of conversations or words is too low.
