The states of NSW and Victoria are under mounting pressure to adopt pill testing after people died at music festivals from drug overdose.

In the most recent case, a 20year old died in Victoria on New Year’s Day after taking an unknown substance. It’s the fifth death related to drugs in a music festival within 5 months.

Both states have ruled out pill testing.

NSW premier, Gladys Berejiklian said her government would consider pill testing if they were presented with evidence that pill testing saves lives. She added that currently they haven’t seen any such evidence.

Victoria Treasurer, Tim Palllas, said that pill testing will lead people into a false sense of security.
