New South Wales Rural Fire Service Commissioner Shane Fitzsimmons has dismissed the notion volunteer firefighters across the state want to be paid.
It comes after New South Wales Firefighters Association President called on the federal government to recogise the financial burden which accompanies being a volunteer.
Both the R-F-S Commissioner and the federal government say payment would go against the spirit of volunteerism.
Mr Fitzsimmons is particularly critical of the legitimacy of Firefighters Association President Mike Holton.
