Pammessenian Brotherhood Papaflessas turns 60 years old this year. The Melbourne based Greek club has at its helm, for the first time, a woman president.

Panayiota Dimitropoulos has been an active participant and member of the board of Papaflessas for many years. This year, with the encouragement of many board members, she threw her hat in the ring for the presidency and was successful.

Ms Dimitropoulos spoke to SBS Greek about the 60th anniversary celebrations,  the club's efforts to increase its youth membership and the new initiative of cooperation with other Greek clubs to create a common strategy for the maintenance of the Greek heritage and identity in Australia.
