People living with disability are having trouble finding proper housing

According to the Australian Housing and Urban Research Institute, up to 120,000 people registered for the National Disability Insurance Scheme cannot find a house that meets their needs for a reasonable price.

Dr Andrea Sharam, Senior Lecturer at RMIT's School of Design and Social Context, says that vendors often remove features that people with disabilities require from their houses, prior to selling them. They believe they’ll get a price that way. In addition, the high prices in newer housing force many people living with disability to settle for older accommodation.

Dr Sharam believes that Australia needs an online inventory, where people with disabilities can easily find a  house that fits their needs.

Such a service would also benefit other parts of the population, like the elderly.
