Peter Dutton elected Liberal leader, David Littleproud defeats Barnaby Joyce to lead Nationals

Both Coalition party rooms have elected new leaders following their stinging loss in the federal election.


Former defence minister Peter Dutton has been elected leader of the Liberal Party, with Sussan Ley to serve as deputy.

Both were unopposed.

Member for Maranoa David Littleproud has been elected leader of the Nationals, defeating former leader Barnaby Joyce and Victorian MP Darren Chester in a party room vote.

Perin Davey has been named deputy leader.
