Scientists believe a cheap and widely available drug could reduce the number of COVID-19 deaths... and the virus returns to New Zealand after nearly a month of no cases.
Researchers in England say they have the first evidence that a drug can improve COVID-19 survival: A cheap, widely available steroid reduced deaths by up to one third in severely ill hospitalised patients.
The study, led by the University of Oxford, was a large, strict test that randomly assigned more than 2000 [[2104]] patients to get the drug, dexamethasone, and compared them with more than twice that number of patients getting only usual care.
