The Parthenon was lit up by the fireworks in Athens at midnight for the new year, 2016! The New Year messages for 2016 of the state and political leaders of Greece and Cyprus had many points about the economic situation in 2015 and the outlook as well as the refugee situation. In particular, the Greek President Prokopis Pavlopoulos made references also to the national issues: Cyprus and its need to be solved on a respectful basis with a viable solution for both the Greeks and Turks whilst on the issue of the Former Yugoslavian Republic of Macedonia (FYROM), he stated that there should be respect of the historical truth of Macedonia with no irredentist attitudes for the European direction of this Balkan state.
