Mr Colbeck, reaffirmed the role that the federal government's regulatory authority will be playing after the regular staff and management return to the facility.
"Aged care Quality and Safety Commission, will retain some interest through the order that was issued the weekend... the order to comply for a period of time so that we can ensure that the care that is provided within the facility, when the staff start to come back is up to standard".
Furthermore, he noted that the Archdiocese had expressed the will to conform to the order.
The Federal Minister for Aged Care said that he was aware of the relatives' allegations about the lack of use of Personal Protective Equipment by staff, and highlighted the need for a necessary "inquiry into events".
Asked about the communication issues reported by relatives, from the moment the government took over the administration of St. Basil's, Mr. Kolbeck, admitted some problems, also noting that the new staff was not familiar with residents. He said that he was aware of quite a few families that were regularly updated about the welfare of their loved ones, but admitted that the failure of communicating with some others, did cause angst.
