State of Emergency in Victoria to be extended, Andrews to outline two plans for Victoria

The Andrews government is set to extend Victoria's State of Emergency for another 6 months after a Green senator declared her support for the legislation.


Samantha Ratnam, who is on maternity leave, is going to join the session at the Victorian parliament where the bill that would allow Daniel Andrews to extend the State of Emergency in Victoria for another 6 months. 

She is expected to vote in favour of the legislation.

Daniel Andrews was pushing for a 12 months extension to the current powers that allow the Chief Medical Officer to take measures for the pandemic.

According to the government, the extension of the State of Emergency does not mean that the lockdown will continue.

Daniel Andrews is expected to announce on Sunday, 6th of September,  two plans to reopen Victoria, one for metropolitan Melbourne and another for the regional Victoria:

"The challenge is different in metropolitan Melbourne than it is in regional Victoria. We will always strive though to make sure those rules as simple and as logical as they can be. That's not easy but we're confident we can strike that balance"
