Statue for the ANZACs and Lemnos at Kogarah Town Square

The unveiling of the ANZAC and Lemnos Commemorative Statue and Plaque will take place this Saturday 4th March 2017 from 10.30 to 11.30 am at Kogarah Town Square, Belgrave Street, Kogarah.This ANZAC and Lemnos Commemorative Statue and Plaque to be unveiled commemorates the sacrifices made by the Australian servicemen and women in the First WW, whilst highlighting the significant support offered by Greece and the subsequent longstanding relationship between Australia and the Greek island of Lemnos. More in the interview that artist Takis Kozokos gave to Themi Kallos.


In particular, the statue recognises the important role played by nurses in the military field hospitals established on Lemnos and serves to commemorate the important role of Australian nurses in theatres of war.

This project was supported by the Australian Government Department of Veterans' Affairs, ANZAC Centenary Local Grants Program in 2015.
