Among the standout local hopes in Australia’s female tennis is Greek-Australian rising star Tahlia Kokkinis.

Kokkinis competed for the last time at the Australian Open Junior Championships which have been a strong barometer of future success on the professional tour.

For Kokkinis, now 17 and turning 18 in August, the junior Australian Open represents both an opportunity and a milestone.

Kokkinis began playing tennis at the age of three and describes the sport as “fun” and driven by competition and adrenaline.

Born in New South Wales and raised in Brisbane from a young age, Kokkinis credits her father as her first coach and biggest influence in her early development.

Beyond the court, Kokkinis speaks with pride about her Greek heritage.

Her grandparents hail from across Greece, including the Peloponnese, the Greek island of Karpathos, Ioannina and Thessaloniki, giving her a strong sense of connection to Greek culture.

Her Greek name, “Archontoula”, comes from her grandmother and remains an important part of her identity.
