A 47-year-old veterinarian is expected to spend the next three months of her life in prison because of her activism.

A court has sentenced a woman to three months in jail for breaching her probation as she continued her anti-mining protests in western Tasmania.

Colette Harmsen appeared in court charged with intentionally obstructing the use of the road and failing to comply with a police officer's order.

Ms Harmsen, who is a veterinarian, is also a volunteer "wildlife advocate" and forest activist with the Bob Brown Foundation.
