As of this morning, Tasmania now counts 2 dead from coronavirus and 69 confirmed cases. The latest death is that of a man, over 80 years old, who died in a Hobart hospital.

Yesterday the state government announced a string of measures aimed at halting the spread of the pandemic. Among others, Tasmanians are not allowed to travel to their secondary residences. They have to stay at home unless they have a good reason such as work or buying food. Outdoor gatherings larger than 2 people have been banned.

The government has warned that there will be consequences from those who breach the measures, ranging from fines to arrest.

Meanwhile Shelter Tasmania calls says that an effective counter to spread of the virus demands that all Tasmanians having access to a shower and a place where they can self-isolate. The state has been experiencing a housing problem lately.
