Australia to terminate Russia's diplomatic lease in Canberra over security fears

Prime Minister Anthony Albanese said the government had received "very clear security advice" as to the risk presented by a new Russian presence next to Parliament House.


Parliament has rapidly passed legislation cancelling Russia's lease on a block of land adjacent to Parliament House where it planned to build its new embassy.

The Australian government introduced a bill in parliament this morning to denounce the leasing of the Russian embassy, citing it as a threat to the intelligence services.
