The great legacy of Yiannis Poulopoulos who passed away at 79 years old

One of Greece's most popular singers, Yiannis Poulopoulos, died late Sunday night (Greek time) due to heart problems.


Poulopoulos was was born 29 June 1941 in the region of Mani. One of his first cooperation in the Greek music industry was with composer Mikis Theodorakis.

He was one of the most loved voices of the so-called "New Wave", that thrived in Greece in the mid 60's.

Afterwards he worked with some of the  most emblematic composers and lyricists, such as Mimis Plessas, Yiannis Spanos, Lefteris papadopoulos and many others.

Some of his biggest hits are "To Agalma", "Epefte vathia siopi", "Paidi mou ora sou kali", and many-many more.

According to media reports he died Sunday night around 11 p.m. at a private hospital in Athens. His death was confirmed around midday (Greek time).
